Sustrans Route 41

Route Description

National Route 41 starts in Bristol and heads out to Avonmouth along the Avon Gorge.  The route passes very close to Leigh Woods which has some fantastic mountain bike trails

The route heads out across the open landscape and is largely flat. It passes Berkeley and Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetland Centre, before picking up the Sharpness Canal on the way to Gloucester and Cheltenham. Information on the quality of the Sharpness Canal for cyclists is available here

The route north of Cheltenham is under development, though sections are open between Tewkesbury and Evesham on unsurfaced bridleway, and between Stratford and Rugby which offer the opportunity for pleasant, short rides. A particular highlight is the Offchurch Greenway, which was formerly part of the Leamington to Rugby railway line. This flat, surfaced footpath and cycleway offers exceptional views across South Warwickshire along its one and a half miles.

Sustrans Route 41 in Long Itchington

The railway line existed in olden days to carry coal to the cement works and we had a station midway between Long Itchington and Model Village. Model Village was where many of the cement workers lived.
